General Phobias – Types & Treatments
In this section on fears, phobia types and phobia treatments we’re going to introduce the most common types and general categories of fear or anxiety inducing phobias, explain them in simple terms and look at treatment options available.
Let’s not forget, there are THOUSANDS of different specific phobias – we’re only looking in depth at those most common but treatments for other phobias will follow the same options and principles. There are three main categories of phobias (see also types of phobia)so let’s start with those:
It is estimated that anxiety disorders affect more than 40 million adults in America. Any stressful event in an individual’s life is known to cause anxiety. However, chronic anxiety is neither mild nor brief and it can last for up to six months. It is also known to get worse if the condition is left untreated. Anxiety disorders, in general, are classified as generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, and phobic disorder.
